UFC 320 gave us moments to remember. Alex Pereira needed less than two minutes to shut down Magomed Ankalaev and reclaim his throne. Meanwhile, Merab Dvalishvili proved once again that “The Machine” doesn’t slow down, dominating Cory Sandhagen to keep his title.
Let’s get into the event.
🗿 Alex Pereira Wastes No Time Against Magomed Ankalaev
Alex Pereira came ready to take back what he lost in their first fight, while Magomed Ankalaev entered the Octagon for his first title defense. But things didn’t go according to his plan—because the night belonged to Poatan.
Just 80 seconds into the opening round, we already had ourselves an “And New.” Ankalaev started slow, as usual, and Pereira took full advantage. From the opening bell, Alex pushed forward with pressure, landed heavy shots, and gave Ankalaev zero time to find his rhythm.
The Russian tried to shoot for a desperate takedown after getting rocked—but that was his final mistake. Pereira sprawled, dropped hammers, and ended it right there.
Easy work. Beautiful performance. Even though, honestly, I still hate how overhyped this guy is—but credit where it’s due, he delivered when it mattered.

🤖 Merab Outperforms Sandman and Breaks Records
In the co-main, we didn’t get a war—we got domination.
Merab Dvalishvili, ready for his third title defense, faced Cory Sandhagen fresh off a win over Figueiredo back in May. Round 1 was Merab warming up, letting Sandhagen show his best offense. From Round 2 onward? The Machine flipped the switch.
He mauled Sandhagen with relentless pressure, chaining takedowns like it was a drill session. In Round 2 alone, he landed 8 of 13 takedowns, push Sandman in dangerous moment, easily a 10-8 round. By the end, there was no suspense—the scorecards were just a formality.
The win also pushed Merab past 100 career takedowns, a number even Khabib and Khamzat haven’t touched.
And, of course, as always, the internet did its thing—”Boring”, “wrestling kills MMA”, blah blah blah. But hey, appreciate the craft. That’s elite-level control, not just lay-and-pray. Merab’s proving that fundamentals still rule the sport.

💥 The Rest of the Card
A few other names showed out on the night:
- Jiri Prochazka turned back the clock with a wild third-round KO over Khalil Rountree, earning Fight of the Night honors.
- Joe Pyfer submitted Abus Magomedov with a slick rear-naked choke.
- Youssef Zalal pulled off a first-round armbar against Josh Emmett, adding another highlight to his resume.
Not the deepest card of the year, but the moments that hit—hit hard.
🤼♂️ Next?
For Alex Pereira, it’s another reign on the throne. But with a rumored foot injury suffered during the fight, he might be out for a bit. If not, there are plenty of sharks circling—Jiri Prochazka, Carlos Ulberg, and even Jamahal Hill are all viable next steps.
For Magomed Ankalaev, it’s back to the drawing board. He’s still elite, but he’ll need a serious reset after that kind of knockout.
For Merab, his dominance is reaching historic levels. At this point, the only question is who can actually stop The Machine? Fans are already talking about possible matchups with Petr Yan or even a triology with Sean O’Malley, if he ever moves up. For me, I’ll pick Alexander Volkanovski as his next opponent, they’re totally deserve that match.
And for Cory Sandhagen—he’s still one of the most technical strikers in the division, but tonight showed the gap between skill and consistency, I would love to see him comeback in the future, or even consider move up to feather.
💭 Closing
Two champions. Two completely different styles.
Alex Pereira reminded everyone that pure power and killer instinct can end a fight before it starts. Merab Dvalishvili reminded everyone that hard work, pressure, and pace still win titles in this game.
No matter how you look at it, UFC 320 was a reminder of MMA’s balance—between chaos and control, flash and grind.
What do you think—did Alex Pereira just cement himself as one of the most dangerous fighters in UFC history, or is this hype train still too loud?
And for Merab—do you think anyone at bantamweight can stop The Machine?
